BC is in Year 6 of SOGI 1 2 3. The BC SOGI Educator Network now has participation from 60 of 60 districts. The SOGI-Inclusive Education Resource Guide is a set of recommendations by educators who have been actively supporting students of all sexual orientations and gender identities for years, available for download in both English and French. DOWNLOAD BROCHURE Watch Videos STORIES Rainbow Crosswalk Kootenay Lake School District To celebrate Pride Month, a group of passionate students and volunteers transformed the Nelson Waldorf School breezeway into a rainbow sidewalk. Organized by an educator and supported by the NWS’ Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Social Justice Committee, the sidewalk stands as a bright example of acceptance and understanding for middle school students. GSA Bus Transportation Langley School District Langley School District removed a big barrier for student GSA leaders across the district by providing a school bus to take them to/from district GSA meetings. Now, leaders from school-based GSAs can not only meet with their respective schools but also as a district to share ideas and explore issues together. Parent Sessions Burnaby School District Burnaby School District has hosted a series of information sessions for parents wanting to learn more about SOGI-inclusive education in Burnaby schools. The sessions are co-hosted by the SOGI District Leads and District Leadership and provide an opportunity to engage curious parents in productive discussion around SOGI. Parent Resource Translation Vancouver School Board The Vancouver School Board in collaboration with Trans Care BC created a Q&A document for parents and caregivers of transgender and gender-diverse youth. The booklet has been translated into Chinese, Tagalog, Korean, Punjabi, and Vietnamese. All versions will be available on the updated VSB website. New SOGI Policy Prince George School District Prince George School District has revised its old LGBTQ policy and passed a new SOGI policy in January 2018. The new policy adds inclusive language to support transgender and gender non-confirming students and requires all schools in the district to have gender-neutral bathrooms and change rooms.
